Paulus Gamachuu, 29, of Kilauea, pleaded not guilty in Lihu’e Circuit Court yesterday to a second-degree attempted murder charge.
Appearing before Circuit Court Judge George Masuoka, Gamachuu and his lawyer, Deputy Public Defender James Itamura, waived reading of the charges and entered the not-guilty plea.
His case is scheduled to go to trial Monday, March 8.
According to county First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Craig DeCosta, Gamachuu was charged in relation to an incident on Jan. 6 on Kaikala Street in Kilauea, where Kilauea resident Ernest Palacio Jr. was stabbed twice in the neck and chest.
Gamachuu is being held at Kauai Community Correctional facility in lieu of $20,000 bail, said DeCosta.
