National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu have continued a high-surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua’i today, for the 14th straight day.
Wave-face heights were expected to be in the 15-to-20-foot range.
The large northwest swell is expected to subside through the day today.
This is the 16th day this month where a high-surf advisory was posted for Hawaiian shores, said Roy Matsuda, lead forecaster for the NWS.
Surf must be above the 15-foot-face level before NWS officials issue a high-surf advisory for north and west-facing shores, and above 8 feet for all other shores.
Almost all of the advisories have been for north- and west-facing shores, but with the strong winds last Wednesday, a high-surf warning was posted for south-facing shores.
For a high-surf warning, surf on the south shores must be over 15 feet. A high-surf warning for north-facing shores is posted when wave-face heights reach 25 feet.
