Kaua’i has been selected as the top choice for organizers of the International Surfing Hall of Fame, Heenalau Surfing Arts Museum.
Among the factors that put Kaua’i as the top choice for the museum are some of the world’s finest surfing sites as well as Kaua’i being the home to some of the sport’s top athletes.
The International Surfing Hall of Fame believes that Kaua’i, with approximately one million visitors annually, along with the island’s great aloha and old-island feel is an ideal location for establishment of a home for the International Surfing Hall of Fame, and the Heenalau Surfing Arts Museum.
“We believe this attraction will be a valuable asset to Kaua’i’s tourist industry and local community, helping to provide jobs and promotion for Kaua’i,” read a press release announcing the site location.
The International Surfing Hall of Fame was established in 1966 to honor outstanding individual contributions to the sport, its industry, arts and culture, as well as preserve surfing’s rich history.
Educating the public about Hawai’i’s own sport of kings is another mission of the International Surfing Hall of Fame, and Hawai’i, as the cradle of the sport now enjoyed worldwide is the obvious choice for locating the surfing museum.
The International Surfing Hall of Fame’s plans call for establishing a site to house the International Surfing Hall of Fame along with a surfing museum, and a surfing art gallery dedicated to surfing’s legendary personalities, history, arts and culture.
