HONOLULU — Kaua’i keiki between 11-18 years old will be the first in line when the Hawai’i Tourism Authority (HTA), the state tourism agency, teams up for its second consecutive year with the National Football League (NFL) to conduct youth training clinics throughout the state from Jan. 31 through Feb. 7.
The clinics allow boys and girls, ages 11-18, to train in small groups with some of the NFL’s best.
Kaua’i’s clinic will take place on Jan. 31 at Vidinha Stadium from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Organized by Nat Moore, a former Miami Dolphins wide receiver, the Pro Bowl Youth Clinics will reach in excess of 3,000 Hawai’i youth throughout the state by Pro Bowl Day, Sunday, Feb. 8. Additionally, the NFL players in this program will visit selected middle and high schools across the state.
“The NFL Pro Bowl Youth Clinics give Hawai’i’s youth a rare opportunity to interact with some of their sports heroes,” said Rex Johnson, HTA President and CEO. “These professional athletes are not only sharing athletic tips with out kids to make them better skilled young athletes, but they are also motivating them to strive for bigger goals in life. We’re very fortunate to be able to make these clinics available to our kids which, until last year, were only available in the NFL’s Super Bowl cities.”
In addition to the athletic sessions offered as part of the training clinics, cheerleading sessions conducted by two NFL cheerleaders have been added to this year’s program. Space in each cheerleading session is limited to 50 participants per clinic.
