Kekaha needs
Hi, my name is Casey Barba. I live in a peaceful hood in Kekaha. I have a complaint that in Kekaha, we need shopping malls, Taco Bell, and an arcade place for people to cruise and play. Here in the Westside of Kekaha, we don’t get as much things to do, but we always go beach and surf with friends. Like Eastside, there’s more things to do up there. I think we need more exciting things in the Westside, so more people come down and see what it’s all about.

Against drugs
Drugs are bad for you and in the essay I’m about to tell you I will talk about what kind of drugs are out there and what kind of disease you can get from them.
Drugs are bad for you because if you do too much of it you could get a deadly disease that could take your life away.
Some drugs could give you bad diseases like, alcohol poisoning, cancer, brain damage. All of the disease I just said is potential death disease.
The drugs that can give you these fatal disease are tobacco, weed, ice, alcohol, and heroin. If I were you I would stay away from these drugs. So now you know that drugs aren’t good for your body it just breaks your body down, so don’t do drugs, and live a happy and fun life without drugs involved.

Trash at school
Hi my name is Steven and I attend Waimea High School. There is a lot of trash here, so we should recycle more. So if someone could donate recycle bins that would be great!

Supports JROTC
Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps is a big program in Waimea High School. This program has about 200 students in it. JROTC started in 1995 at Waimea High School. It tries to increase the knowledge of students; build confidence; and motivate students to become better citizens. It is a class that is taken in place of physical education and a health and guidance course. However, students learn and gain more from JROTC like learning leadership, life skills, and by contributing to the school and community. JROTC challenges cadets to make a difference and help out in numerous community activities from Taps and funerals to parades and weddings. JROTC provides extra curricular activities like color guard, riflery (NRA and Junior Olympics), drill teams (saber and rifle), and adventure training. (ATT, BIAC, triathlons, Basketball, USMC physical test, ALTC, and Spring Camp.) Waimea JROTC has also won many awards such as: Best Marching Unit 1996 and 2000 in the Veteran’s Day parade, first place team in ATT in 1998 and 2001, first place BIAC in 2000 and 2001, first place male athlete, first place in Ultimate Ranger Competition, first place state girls USMC physical fitness festival, and first place in girls Kalaheo Invitational Basketball Tournament. They have won many more first, second and third place awards. Over all this JROTC program has been a success. It has changed and matured cadets over the years they are in this program. Waimea High School will still continue this program because of all that it has done.
I am a student at Waimea High School. I think that now days, there is too much litter on the island of Kauai. Adopt A Highway is just not big enough to clean the whole island. I think that we should recycle more and stop throwing away trash. The landfills are beginning to overflow. So I would like everyone to stop littering and clean our island and keep it beautiful.

Speeding in Residential Area
One day, as I was enjoying the afternoon playing basketball, I noticed a car speeding by. Five houses down, there were kids playing by the road. The driver sounded his horn to worn the kids to move. How sad is that! You as a driver, should know that when kids are playing by the road, you need to slow down and make sure to be cautious. The speed limit in a residential area is 20 miles per hour. Driver’s education is now permitted before a driver’s license is issued. I’m glad that this came into effect. That means, there should be more responsible drivers on the road! Just because you have a driver’s license, that doesn’t mean you can drive reckless. If you are an aggressive driver, it reflects on how you drive. Pay attention and respect others as others will respect you! So, SLOW DOWN! What’s the hurry!

Gas prices
I want to talk about the gas prices and why does it cost so much. On the island of Kauai the average cost of gas that I have seen is about $2.23 on the whole island. O’ahu the gas prices are at least 10 cents cheaper than over here. Why is there a big difference between here and O’ahu? We’re only so many miles away.
I have noticed in the past year or so the gas price has gone up just around 10 cents or less. In the mainland the gas prices are at least a dollar cheaper. They say that the gas on the mainland is cheaper because they are closer to Iraq, so it would cost less to travel from place to place. So if you are putting gas at least find a place that is a little cheaper than others. It could save you money in the long run.
