LIHU’E — The long-awaited opening of a Starbucks coffee store at Kukui Grove Center was held Friday.
Long lines outside the store showed the pent up enthusiasm of Kaua’i coffee drinkers for the arrival of the international brand of coffee drinks and related products.
Others were drawn by the novelty of having a well-known name brand arrive on Kaua’i.
The first Starbucks opened in 1971 at Seattle’s Pike Place Market.
This year marked the opening of its 1000th Asia-Pacific store, and currently has over 7,000 locations opened in the United States and around the globe.
Starbucks offers a wide variety of coffee drinks made from beans grown in Kona and other coffee growing areas of the world.
The company is also luring coffee drinkers in with high-speed wireless access to the Internet at some of their shops.
