The Garden Island and Zonta Club of Kaua’i are again teaming up with the community to try to make the holidays a little happier for those in need.
Every year, community members are asked to make donations to the Zonta/Garden Island Christmas Fund.
With the help of community agencies, Zonta Club members identify families who will not have a merry Christmas without help. Every day from now until Christmas, The Garden Island will publish stories about people who could use some assistance. The names have been changed to protect their privacy, but the stories are all actual case histories of people living on Kaua’i.
For more than 20 years, the community has come through with Kaua’i aloha, although some years, when times are tough for everyone, it hasn’t been easy. If donors could see the smiles on the faces of those they have helped — young and old — they would feel their contributions are well-spent.
Checks and money orders may be sent to Zonta/Garden Island Christmas Fund, P.O. Box 1120, Kapa’a HI 96746. Christmas-Fund organizers hope neighbors continue their traditional generosity, which has helped countless families have merry Christmases for more than 20 years.

Bedding would make Patrick happy
It’s hard to look forward to the holidays when you are partially paralyzed and bed-bound like Patrick. One thing that could make him happier are some bed sheets, pillows and blankets to keep him warm.
Patty could also use sheets and blankets
Patty is an 86-year-old woman who spends most of her time in bed. Patty needs bed sheets, pillows, and blankets. She is on a fixed income, and she is unable to purchase these needed items.
Mike needs canned foods
Mike lives alone in a one-bedroom apartment, and is in poor health. He lives on a very tight budget, and could use some canned foods and basic toiletry items.
Mary’s cupboards are very bare
Mary lives alone, and is wheelchair-bound. After paying her monthly bills, she has very little left for food and other necessities. Her cupboards are often bare. Having some canned goods and other basic items would brighten her holidays.
Warm clothes and food are Robert’s wishes
Robert lives alone in a one-bedroom apartment. He struggles with his day-to-day living expenses, and cannot afford any luxuries of life. He would very much appreciate some canned goods and other non-perishable food items. He could also use some warm clothes.
