Guy Ruiz, playing for the Hawai’i team Kanaona, helped the team secure their world title in the Las Vegas Senior World Series, 60s Bracket recently.
Kanaona played 11 games in three days of competition, seven of which took place on the final day of competition after Kanaona dropped their critical fourth game against Clearwater Florida on the opening day.
Battling back in the double-elimination segment of the championship bracket, Kanaona edged the World Class Chicago Classics 5-4 in the sixth game of the final day of competition.
The Classics, unbeaten in competition until meeting up with Kanaona, went to game seven against the Hawai’i squad, who ran away with the game 27-12 for the world title.
Ruiz, playing in left-center, was recognized for his outstanding outfield catches and precise relays to the infield for critical put-outs.
This was Ruiz’ second World Series game, earlier he played for another Hawai’i team in the 55s Bracket.
Joining Ruiz on the squad were Frank Bukoski and Nelson Mendonca.
Alex Kane of the Big Island and Danny Makiho of O’ahu coached the championship team whose members received a World Championship ring to commemorate their title.
