A bomb threat Thursday morning forced temporary evacuation of the state courthouse, historic County Building, the State Building and some classrooms at Wilcox Elementary School.
Kaua’i Police Department dispatchers received a telephone call from state sheriffs at the courthouse around 8:22 a.m., with the sheriffs saying an unidentified woman had called the courthouse saying a bomb was planted somewhere in the courthouse, on ‘Umi Street in Lihu’e, said Cyndi Mei Ozaki, county public information officer.
Besides the courthouse and adjacent historic County Building and State Building, also evacuated to the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall were students in some of the Wilcox Elementary School classrooms closest to the courthouse, Ozaki said.
KPD officers responded, searched the courthouse, and gave the all-clear for re-entry about an hour after they were dispatched, she continued.
The situation, classified as first-degree terroristic threatening, remains under investigation, she added.
