ANAHOLA — Responding to numerous calls to the Graffiti Busters helpline (241-6398), Tim Bynum, the contact person and “dispatcher” for the busters, representatives from the Anahola Hawaiian Homesteads Association, and students from the Alternative Learning Center at Kapa’a High School pitched in to clean the bus stop on Kukuihale Road here.
Two county workers, including Bully Aki, came early to prime the structure, and left behind five gallons of paint and drop cloths.
Less than two hours later, with help from the ALC students, the walls, ceiling, and floor of the cement structure were free of vandalism and garbage.
The crew then moved on to the Anahola Clubhouse, and another bus stop in front of the clubhouse.
“I thought it would be good for (the students) to get involved,” said Auntie Lorraine Rapozo of the Anahola Hawaiian Homesteads Association. “They needed this.”
The crew of seven, plus the helpers from Anahola, pitched in.
“If you give them something like this, they get really excited,” said Brandon Moises, ALC teacher. “It’s a pride thing for these guys.”
