Merilyn Harris, the new Assistant Administrator of Mahelona Medical Center, was welcomed by all at the November meeting of the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital Residents’ Council.
The meeting was held this past week.
Ed Duarte, president of the Council and long time resident of the nursing facility described Mahelona, its residents, their families and the employees as ‘one ohana’ that works together to help one another.
“I’m very happy to be joining the Mahelona ‘ohana, said Harris. “I see the genuine caring that goes on here and am very proud to be a part of it.””
Harris and her husband are newly arrived to Kaua’i from Canada but are not new to the islands having lived previously in Hilo.
She comes to Kaua’i with over 25 years of nursing experience, a graduate degree in health science and is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

Mitchell Jenkins, MD, a specialist in Internal Medicine, joined West Kauai Clinics in ‘Ele’ele to offer his primary care services to our Kaua’i community.
Dr. Jenkins is originally from Colorado and completed his residency in Norfolk, VA.
His wife attended University of Hawaii and their plan to move to our garden island finally became a reality this past year.
Their two daughters are attending college at University of Colorado.
As an Internal Medicine specialist, Dr. Jenkins works to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries.
