Dr. Paul Flora, who has been a practicing physician on the island for seven years, will begin to take patients on Dec. 8 at the new Aloha Medical Center, which is located across from Dynasty Court near Home Depot.
Flora previously worked at the Kuhio Medical Center.
“I always felt that I could be a better doctor if I could make my own decisions rather than having someone else do it for me,” said Flora.
“I now have the choice rather than having someone else dictate it to me.”
Construction began on the Aloha Center in April of 2003 and was just completed this past week.
The Center was designed by architect Avery Youn, contracted by Clyde Shigematsu with supply materials provided by Hale Kauai.
The Clinic has offices for four doctors with three examining rooms, plus a lab, pharmacy and Bone Density Machine.
Flora will take all of his patients (3,000) from the Kuhio Center.
“This Clinic (Aloha Medical) was built not just for me but for them (the patients),” Flora said. “This whole project has been two years in the making. It is for the people that I serve.”
Flora began his career as a nurse in the Philippines and has 17 years of experience as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse.
He later earned an MBA in Hospital Business Administration before earning his medical degree (Internal Medicine) from the American University of the Caribbean.
He moved to Kaua’i in 1996 where he started his career at the Kuhio Medical Center.
“I hope to incorporate the Internal Medicine in my practice,” Flora said. “I believe that in order to treat the patient completely, you have to take care of the spiritual and emotional side as well.”
Later today beginning at 11 a.m. and running through 5 p.m., Flora will have a Lu’au at the Aloha Center to give thanks to the Kaua’i community.
He expects approximately 2,500 people to attend the event.
