HONOLULU — Waimea High School Menehune’s middle came alive as Jeremy McDown and Casey Kaohelaulii combined to lead the Menehune to a 25-13, 25-20 win over the Campbell Sabers Wednesday afternoon in the 2003 Nissan State Volleyball Championships.
Playing in the consolation bracket, McDown led the Menehune with nine kills and three blocks joined by Kaohelaulii who added five kills and a pair of blocks in the victory.
John Taitin led Campbell with five kills.
The Wednesday victory moves Waimea into contention for the consolation title as they await the winner of the Kalaheo/Ka’u matchup that will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Another Waimea win will give them the consolation bracket title in a game that starts at noon on Friday, Nov. 14.
The Kaua’i High School girls take to the floor on Thursday afternoon in a matchup against Kamehameha-Maui starting at 2 p.m.
A win over the Maui school will move the Red Raider ladies into contention for the consolation title Friday morning against Kealakehe.
