Fourteen students from Kenn Firestone’s Universal Karate attended the 2003 Martial Arts Expo held on Maui Oct. 25-26.
The two-day event featured karate schools statewide as well as from the mainland with all of the attending students either winning, or placing in their division competition.
Other students attending included Alison Taylor, Christy Mayfield, Kaylee Hale, Alsen Dynes, John Ogle, Maxwell Manera, Lance Wiesel and John Fatu.
Winners included Cynthia Madden, first women’s black belt division; Kenn Firestone, first men’s black belt division; Savannah Vea, second in kata, first in intermediate boys and girls division; Tiana Esaki, first in kata, first in sparring, intermediate (age 12) and second in sparring (14 and older black belt division); Clayton Sasil, second in kata (6-yr. division); Teyanni Esaki, second in kata (6-yr. division).
