Wooden boat regatta takes off Nov. 15
The Gene Wells Wooden Boat Regatta 2003 will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 starting at 10 a.m. in the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor.
Presented by the Nawiliwili Yacht Club, the event honors the man and his work featuring the wooden boats that master craftsman Gene Wells designed and built on Kaua‘i since the early 1970s.
The public is invited to attend with the best vantage points being from the Nawiliwili Mole, the site of the old Club Jetty.
The boats can be viewed following the regatta at the small boat harbor where a potluck lunch at the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s clubhouse will follow.
Refreshments and hot dogs will be available for a donation.

Aloha Section PGA announces Pro-Scratch
The Aloha Section PGA announces the 2003 Bridgestone Sports Pro-Scratch Championship at the Pearl Country Club, Nov. 3-4.
This is a fairly new event that has been added onto the Section’s tournament schedule, the event being created by Bridgestone representative Del-Marc Fujita in 2001.
This will be the third year Fujita has sponsored and produced this event, Fujita teaming up with Casey Nakama for this year’s event.
Tournament format is a two-man team, one professional and one amateur, and is open to all Aloha Section PGA members, apprentices, ATPs and LPGA, with all amateurs to play scratch.
The professionals will be playing for a $9,000 purse while the amateurs will be awarded $3,350 in merchandise certificates and prizes along with other contest prizes provided by the sponsor.
There are 36 teams entered in this year’s event, which will start at 9:41 a.m. in a two-man scramble format. The second round starts at 6:46 a.m. off two tees in a Best Ball of Two format.
