Wayne Gilbert “Coach Wayne” Soares of Ewa Beach and Wai‘anae, died at Kaiser Foundation Hospital on Oct. 10, 2003, at the age of 59.
Born in Honolulu on Aug. 27, 1944, he retired as a state security supervisor at Leeward Community College. He was a football coach, in Pop Warner Football, military football and at James Campbell High School.
He is survived by his wife, Magnolia “Maggie” Soares; daughters: Diana “Mele” (Warren) Carroll of Kahului, Maui; Rosalynn (Kalani) Nuuanu; and Magnolia “Kahea” Soares; sons: Wayne (Selene) Soares; Jason (Lorelei) Soares of Lahaina, Maui; sisters: Diana Latu of Tonga; Bessie Hendricks of Kapa‘a; brothers: Kendall (Cynthia) Kirby; Albert “Sonny” Soares of Kapa‘a; Michael Byrd of Samoa; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m.; and again on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel, from 8:30 a.m., funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Mililani Memorial Park. Casual attire is suggested.
