Alice Soares
Alice V. Soares of Kalaheo, died at home on Oct. 8, 2003 at the age of 75.
Born in Koloa, on Dec. 8, 1927, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Kalaheo Clinic for the past 22 years.
Preceded in death by husband, Ernest Buckaroo Soares and sister, Helen Dastrup. She is survived by five sons, Rodney (Joyce) Soares of Kalaheo, Antone Soares of Kalaheo, Ernest (Rayna) Soares Jr. of Puhi, Alexander Soares of Kalaheo and Alan Soares of Kalaheo; two daughters, Leona (Calvin) Soares of Kalaheo and Angela (Paul Philips) Soares of Kalaheo; three brothers, Joseph (Carmina) Vilche of Hayward, Calif., Manuel (Mary Lou) Vilche of Red Bluff, Calif., and Antone Vilche of Sunnyvale, Calif.; four sisters, Carmen (Frank) Perry of Sunnyvale, Calif., Josephine (Antone) Corral of Morgan Hill, Calif., Mary Clark of Manteca, Calif., and Lillian (Donald) Fuerbacher of Santa Clara, Calif.; three aunts, Frances Ortiz of Las Vegas, Nev., Bessie Gonsalves of San Francisco, Calif., and Mercy Arial of Honolulu; two sisters-in-law, Alice Lyman of Pearl City and Agnes (Paul) Perreira of Pearl City; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 – 10:45 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church; mass officiated by Father Keahi to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kauai Hospice and American Cancer Society (Kaua‘i Office).
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Dominador Acain
Dominador Luardo Acain of Kekaha, died in Honolulu on October 6, 2003 at the age of 79.
Born in Paia, Maui on Nov. 8, 1923, he retired from Kekaha Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Acain; son, Dominic (Tiare) Acain; daughter, Diane (Lionel) Rodrigues; brother, Patricio (Florence) Acain; brother-in-law, Marcelo Rivelo; 5 grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces.
Friends may visit with the family for a beach memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kikiaola Boat Harbor in Kekaha.
Private inurnment will be held.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary.
Mitsugi Nishihara
Mitsugi Nishihara of Koloa died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Sept. 27, 2003, at the age of 97.
Born in Halehaka, Kaua‘i on Sept. 13, 1906, he was a retired salesman with Lihue Plantation Store.
Preceded in death by sons, Albert and Howard, he is survived by his wife, Kamee; four daughters, Ann Ayabe of Kaneohe, O‘ahu; Edna Holdeman of Kalaheo, Gloria Young of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Thelma Chikuma of Bellevue, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, at Kalaheo Missionary Church; service officiated by Pastor Niles Kageyama will begin at 4:30 pm.
Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
