Soccer fields rang with the excitement of the contests at hand on Saturday, but if you looked at the diverse field of spectators that were watching contests taking place at North Vidinha, you would not have had a clue that these AYSO soccer players were not only having a good time, but on Saturday, were helping the community by raising funds for charity.
Earlier in the week, Darrelynn Lemke, one of the soccer parents who help out at North Vidinha, explained that soccer teams selected a soccer-thon because most of the children would be involved in soccer games when the Kaua‘i United Way hosts their annual walk-a-thon, this year scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25 at Kukui Grove.
Pledge forms were distributed to teams who canvassed the community for pledges as walkers do, and on Saturday, the forms were turned in to their teams for collection at the soccer games.
