Abubo advances; Kennelly drops
HASSEGOR, France — Ratings leader Keala Kennelly of Kaua‘i was eliminated Wednesday from the Roxy Pro France by French wildcard Emmanuelle Joly as the $60,000 World Championship Tournament was relocated farther south to complete round three.
Kennelly trailed the entire heat against Joly. She needed a combination of scores for most of the match and was able to claw her way back into the hunt towards the end with a 7.33 ride, but fell 8.84 points short.
Joly dominated from the outset with an 8.5 ride. The 32-year-old mother of two drew on her knowledge of the break to pick off the better waves and executed a series of smooth carves and re-entries to the beach.
Megan Abubo was the standout in the morning, defeating Jacqueline Silva of Brazil to meet Chelsea Georgeson of Australia in the quarter finals. Abubo seemed at ease on the lumpy righthand breaks and is eager to secure her first big result of the season. The Roxy Pro France is expected to climax today.
Quiksilver Pro postponed, again
Andy Irons will face French wildcard Frederick Robin when the $250,000 World Championship Tournament resumes.
Messy four-foot waves were on tap in Hossegor, combining with strong onshore winds and rain to postpone competition Wednesday.
Irons will be followed by world No. 2 Joel Parkinson of Australia, meeting another wildcard Patrick Beven.
Mark Occhilupo, 1999 World Champ, is pitted against Phil MacDonald in an all-Australian duel before six-time world champion Kelly Slater of Florida tackles wildcard Troy Brooks of Australia. A decision on the contest is expected tomorrow.

Renna Montero led the Warriors with 222, followed by Amber Abalos with 194 in the loss.
Reyn Mossman shot a 228 followed three points back by Joel Miyashiro as the Warrior boys topped the Navigators 939-865. Charles Chapin’s 209 was the top score for Island School, trailed by Brian O’Brien two points back.
