LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Red Raider women stumbled through two games before picking themselves up to take the first of two playoff games Monday night against Kapa‘a, 17-25, 25-16, 25-12.
Anna Quibilan pulled the Red Raiders into the lead just past the midway mark of game three with a string of eight points, all the while salvaging shaky passes and converting them into sets that were hit-able by Kyrie Simeona, and Kehau Silva.
Simeona came up with a mixed plate of hits, pushes and dinks to lead the Red Raiders, who managed a 12-3 point run against the Warriors in the second half of game three, Simeona locking up four of those points.
Jodi Miyashiro served up a lollipop for the final point, leaving the Red Raider defense to wrap up the package in preparation to Tuesday night’s showdown against the Waimea Menehune who were on hand witnessing the game from the senatorial seats on the stage.
Kapa‘a jumped out early in game one behind the hitting of Poerava Gannt and the middle blocking antics of Jennifer Lindsey as Roxanne Apana wrapped up game one with a string of four service points.
Lindsey got help in the middle as Brittney Carvalho got productive in game two.
Kaua‘i adjusted to the power hitting of Amniesty Ragsac, utilizing Tina Moger to dig the power balls, and in game two jockeyed to their feet as Holly Iloreta served up a string of three points with Quibilan pushing the final point home.
Kaua‘i will meet the Menehune at 7 p.m. today at home to determine the winner of the first round title and, on Wednesday, will host Kapa‘a for the opening of the second round.
