John F. Barretto Jr.
John F. Barretto Jr., of Kapa‘a died on Sept. 20, 2003 at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 69.
Born in Kealia, Hawai‘i on Dec. 15, 1933, he was mainly a self-employed businessman. He was a Kaua‘i County Councilman and also ran for the Mayor’s seat. He ran an automobile towing company and Kaua‘i’s first wrecking yard at Ahukini. He also owned Ahukini Marine Service and a charter fishing company.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Barretto of Kapa‘a; two sons, Michael (Shoshana) Barretto of Kaua‘i, Daniel Barretto of Florida; two daughters, Kristine (John) Garcia Jr., of California, Penny Barretto of Washington; mother, Ida Barretto of Oma‘o; five sisters, Dolores (Ernest) Barreira of Kalaheo, Bernice Ornellas of Lihu‘e, Frances Carreira of Kapa‘a, Ramona (Bill) Mock of California, Theresa Wery of O‘ahu; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 – 11 a.m., St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Service will begin at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow funeral mass and scattering of ashes in the ocean will be done privately at a later date. Aloha attire is suggested.
