The Kauai Filipino Women’s Club awarded $1,000 to high school graduates recently. The students were selected based on scholastic achievements, community and school activities involvement and university/college acceptance.
Monies were raised from the annual Terno Ball. The Terno Ball was prompted by Filipino women approximately 39 years ago to have an avenue in raising scholarship funds for Filipino students who have demonstrated scholastic excellence, to encourage them to pursue higher education, and at the same time hold an event where the women can perpetuate their Philippine national costumes.
This year’s Terno Ball will be on Sept. 13, 2003 at 6 p.m. at Kauai Marriott, Grand Ballroom. The highlight will be the competition in the women’s Terno, men’s Barong, and the three regions cultural dances and songs will also be featured. For more information on this event, call Hannah Timbol 822-4535 or Lisa Trinidad 245-6585.
