Randy Bristol, Lucas Moore strong in VIP soccer
Randy Bristol and Lucus Moore of the Menehune were recognized for their outstanding play in the VIP (Very Important Players) Region 941 game played Saturday at Kapahi.
Dannie Bodano led the scoring with four goals followed by Chance Balilea, Jamie Lynn Berardi, Dylie Chang, Kekoa Hubbard, Mikey Scovel, and Eddie Tagatac who each notched three goals apiece.
Makani Kapua pocketed a pair with Cody Streeter and Shari Yamamoto rounding out the offense with a goal each.
Shooters snipe Gogo’s, 8-2
Jamie Knapp had five goals as the Hanapepe Shooters outgunned the Lihu‘e “E” Go-go’s 8-2 at Hanapepe on Saturday.
Ku‘uipo Catiggay helped the Shooters’ effort with a hat trick (3 goals) in the win, all her goals coming in the second quarter.
Kailah Esona passed to Knapp in the final quarter only to have Jordyn Fune keep the ball out of the goal.
Regina Mine and Tiara Soliven were noted as having a good defensive game.
Devitt scores first
WAIPAHU, O‘ahu — Arlene Devitt scored the first of four goals for the University of Hawai‘i soccer team who blanked the Bowling Green State Falcons 4-0 on Sunday.
Devitt, a graduate of Kapa‘a High School, and three-time All-WAC player, opened the scoring after getting the first of three key assists from junior Robyn deHay who passed to Tia Medeiros before touching to Devitt.
DeHay then hooked up with sophomore Natasha Kai on identical long balls sent over the defense for Hawai`i’s next two goals.
A Kai also scored the final goal of the game, however it was younger sister Krisha Kai who beat the Falcon defense on a long ball by senior Mia Moe for her first career goal.
The Hawai`i defense limited Bowling Green to nine shots. However, when those shots went towards the net, sophomore Mahie Atay was able to corral them. Atay recorded four saves as she teamed with junior Erin Chow for the shutout.
The Rainbow Wahine will hit the road for their next match when they face Cal State Northridge on Sept. 5.
