Kaua‘i’s Aloha Festivals Investiture was held Saturday at the Kamokila Ancient Hawaiian Village along the banks of the Wailua River.
Ceremonies began Saturday morning with a double hull wa‘a (canoe) carrying the Kaua‘i Royal Court up the Wailua River. This was followed by Native Hawaiian protocols, including chants, hula, and Hawaiian music honoring the new Mo‘i Kane, Whitney George Kahanuoka‘aina Smith, and the Mo‘i Wahine, Nalani Kathleen (Ka‘auwai) Brun, and their court.
Entertainment included the members of Halau Na Punua O Kaua‘i under the direction of Na Kumu Hula Wallis and Shana Punua, Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala under the direction of Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao, and Hula Halau O Leilani under the direction of Kumu Hula Leilani Bond.
The Aloha Festivals Opening Ceremony for Kaua‘i is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, with a lu‘au at the Hyatt Regency Kaua‘i.
A Royal Ball is set for Saturday, Oct. 11 with entertainment by Roland Cazimero. A ho‘olaule‘a is planned for Saturday, Oct. 18 on the lawn of the historic Kaua‘i County Building, and will feature a parade featuring pa‘u riders down Rice Street.
