Hanalei Canoe Club 30th Anniversary
The 30th anniversary of the founding of the Hanalei Canoe Club is scheduled to be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 23.
To mark the anniversary, a lu‘au is being held at the Hanalei Canoe Club’s clubhouse, mauka of Weke Road just before the boat ramp, and across from the pier.
The lu‘au is being held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature live music, a full lu‘au meal and local entertainment. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 at the door. Tickets are available from Hanalei Canoe Club members, and in Hanalei town at the Hanalei Liquor Store, Kai Kane, Hanalei Surf Company.

Back-up dates secured for Acid Drop contest
The Acid Drop Surf Classic surfing contest is tentatively scheduled for this weekend, depending on the size and direction of surf.
The contest is featuring over $3,000 in cash and $6,000 in prizes at stake.
In case of cancellation this weekend, contest officials have been able to secure back up dates running from Labor Day weekend through various weekends including Aug. 30nSept. 1, as well as Sept. 13n14 as alternate dates.
Officials are striving for waves of no less than four feet for the one-day contest.
Acid Drop is considered one of the most challenging South Shore waves in Hawai‘i, and located off of Lawa‘i Beach Road in the Kukuiula area.
The contest is open to surfers who live on Kaua‘i. Contest registration is limited, and a few remaining slots are still available, as well as alternate status at various surf shops around the island as well as at KONG radio in Lihu‘e.
Seniors golf tournament
The 2003 third quarterly tournament for Kaua‘i Seniors Golf members is set for Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Wailua Golf Course.
Deadline for entry without penalty is 5 p.m. Aug. 20.
Coast to Coast recruiting baseball players
The non-profit Coast to Coast Athletics of Marietta, Ohio is recruiting Hawai‘i youth baseball players (11-12, 13-15, 16-18) to represent the United States in international competition in Puerto Rico and Australia.
Outstanding amateur players from as many as 38 states nationwide are set to compete against international all-star teams during the 2003-2004 winter, spring and summer school breaks.
The tours last 7-14 days and the teams are managed by college coaches and baseball scouts, according to the organization.
