Inaccurate info in brush fire article
I would like to address the Brush, truck fires keep KPD busy article in August 6, 2003 Garden Island Newspaper regarding Inter-Island Helicopters (Air-1).
In regards to the article quoting Mr. Imamura as saying “the control wires from inside the aircraft were tangled” was inaccurate. The control wires from inside the aircraft, were not tangled as there is no control wires in the aircraft.
The aircraft itself was working properly. The guide wires on the water bucket however are easily entangled when not hung up properly. Due to our lack of a hangar the critical fire and rescue equipment, (paid for and maintained by Inter-Island Helicopters), must be kept in a confined 10×10 shack were there is no room to properly maintain/store the water bucket along with the other critical fire and rescue equipment.
Inter-Island Helicopters already owns a hangar to house this critical equipment, used for search and rescue operations on Kauai. But since November, 2000 has been denied a permit to construct the hangar. Our hangar’s original site was on Hawaiian Home Lands in Hanapepe but our lease was revoked for future development by Hawaiian home lands. Hawaiian home lands wanted to make it a commercialized, industrial area. So, since December 2000 we’ve not had a hangar, to construct at the airport.
We humbly ask the people of Kauai to call your local Mayor Bryan Baptise or even our Governor Linda Lingle to voice your support for us so we can continue to provide quality service and dependable equipment for the County of Kauai 24 hours a day for Search and Rescue Operations.
