Mark D. Lundgren
Mark David Lundgren of Puhi, Kaua‘i, died in a helicopter accident July 23, 2003, at the age of 44.
Born in Scranton, PA, on Aug. 13, 1958, he was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Maryland) in 1980, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1980 until 1995. His last duty station was at Pacific Missile Range Facility where he served as the Maintenance Officer until his retirement from active duty on Nov. 1, 1995, at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
He joined Jack Harter Helicopters shortly before his retirement (August 1995) and has been flying helicopters on Kauai since that time.
He is survived by his wife Diane L. Lundgren; three sons David R. Lundgren, owner of SyberIsle Productions; Andrew S. Lundgren, Lance Corporal, USMC, Cherry Point, NC; and Daniel J. Lundgren, a student at New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, NM; Antoinette M. Lundgren (mother) of Chesapeake, VA; Marlowe K. Lundgren (father) of Australia; Anne Marie Ward (sister) of Chesapeake, VA; Kevin M. Lundgren (brother) of Chesapeake, VA; and Matthew Lundgren (brother) of Virginia Beach, VA.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa. Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo on Friday, Aug. 1, 10:30 a.m. followed by a rendering of Military Honors at the Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is requested.

Sydney Sakai
Sydney Sadao Sakai of Oma‘o, died at home on July 25, 2003 at the age of 57.
Born in Lihu‘e on October 27, 1945 he was a Senior Air Condition/Refrigeration Mechanic with ITT Industries.
He is survived by wife, Edith; son, Sean (Pauline) Sakai of Oma‘o; daughter, Sydette (Mark) Hamasaki of Oma‘o; five grandchildren, Shana Oshima, Sharla Dela Cruz, Shantell Sakai, Justin Hamasaki and Sheldon Sakai; mother, Haruko Sakai; two brothers, Colin Sakai of Puhi and Sterling Sakai of San Francisco, CA.; sister, Penny Dusenberry of Puhi; grandchildren, Shana Oshima, Sharla Dela Cruz, Shantell Sakai, Justin Hamasaki and Sheldon Sakai, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service to begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

John Montemayor Sr.
John Montemayor Sr. of Hanapepe, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 26, 2003, at the age of 89.
Born in Manaoag, Pangasinan, Philippines on June 10, 1914, he was a retired insurance salesman with Hawaiian Life Insurance Company.
Preceded in death by his mother, Emelia, father, Theodore, and daughter Kathleen Joyce Carter, he is survived by his wife, Adelaide of Hanapepe; two sons, Glenn (Bernie) Montemayor of ‘Ele‘ele; John (Barbara) Montemayor of Kapa‘a; one daughter, Grace Kailikino of Hanapepe; eight grandchildren, Shelcie, Elton, Kevin, Guy, Travis, Derrick, Kellie and Aaron; and five great-grandchildren, Lacie, Jordyn, Justin, Bronson and Lacin.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church in ‘Ele‘ele. Service will begin at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Hanapepe Public cemetery. The family suggests casual attire.

Gail Chamberlain
Gail Dickson Chamberlain died in LaJolla, Ca. on July 24, 2003. She was born on Oct. 30, 1916.
She is survived by her daughter, Lani (Herb) McCoy of LaJolla, Ca., and son, Bill (Susan) Chamberlain of Wailua, and grandchildren, Kristin and Michael.
Please join the family in a celebration of her life at 6 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 8, at 320 Aina Manu Place, Wailua Rise Estates, in Wailua Homesteads. A private scattering of ashes is pending, no flowers please.
Fumiko Fujii
Fumiko S. Fujii, formerly of Lihu‘e, passed away on July 24, 2003 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA at the age of 90.
Born in Lihu‘e on November 23, 1912, she was a retired, self employed seamstress.
Preceded in death by her husband, Tokio Fujii. She is survived by her son, Donald Fujii (Keiko) of Banning, CA and daughter, Joyce Honda of Sacramento, CA; two brothers, Richard (Kimiyo) Sakoda of Lihu‘e, Jerry (Mabel) Sakoda of Honolulu; three sisters, Ayako (Keijiro) Matsuo and Miya (Ronald) Toyofuku, Alice (Robert) Klinite of Arizona. 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Harry A. Nauman & Son Land Park Funeral Chapel.
Rosetia Murayama
Rosetia Masae Murayama of Niumalu, died at home on July 27, 2003 at the age of 51.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Nov. 30, 1951, she was a Caregiver.
She is survived by companion Jesse Judy of Niumalu; son, Robin (Lisa) Murayama of Niumalu; parents, Denji and Masako Murayama of Niumalu; two brothers, Calvin (Mary) Murayama of Kerreville, TX and Alan (Diane) Murayama of Honolulu; sister, Jeanette Lopez of Niumalu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Rev. Akiya will begin at 7 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Mary Oshiro of Koloa, died at her residence on July 29, 2003 at the age of 81.
Born in Hawai‘i, on March 12, 1922, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Yoshinobu “Lefty” Oshiro of Koloa; daughters, Jaeda (Curtis) Elvenia of Koloa, Colette (Glen) Akau, Mary Lee Pemberton, Nancy (Paul) Andrade, Marlynne (Jesse) Felipe, Judy (Hamilton) Rodrigues; three sisters, Rose Aranio, Frances Kamibayashi, Julia Rodrigues; three brothers, Joseph, Manuel and Nick Castillo, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Aug. 4, at Koloa Assembly of God Church from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Antonio Basuel
Antonio Basuel of Kapa‘a, died at his residence on July 28, 2003 at the age of 89.
Born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines on June 14, 1914, he owned and operated No Delay Shell Gas Station for over 40 years.
He is survived by four children, Reggie (Diane) Basuel, Vernon (Kitty) Basuel, Norma (Eric) Christian, Anthony (Fran) Basuel; brother, Francisco Basuel of Kaua‘i; sister, Juana of Maui; one brother and two sisters in the Philippines, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 1, at St. Catherine’s Church from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Bruce. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.
