In Farmington, New Mexico the temperature was about 90 degrees and Hawaii’s High School National Rodeo Qualifiers were hot to leave their mark amongst 1,800 rodeo qualifiers from the United States,Canada and Australia.
This past weekend Marcus Laymon and Randy Brun both from Kaua‘i entered into a local jackpot rodeo.
They left Gomez Arena with a buckle each and cash in their pockets. Juddsen Napier and Jodi DeLuz (unable to attend) were honored by Carthartt today.
They were presented with Carthartt qualifier’s jackets and recognized in the Event Arena tonight.
Our qualifiers maintained Hawaii’s volleyball status by emerging winners in a tough game against the Washington State qualifiers.
The standings at the end of Monday performances are: In Boys Cutting: there were 34 cutters yesterday and our boys landed in the top 10 (Hawaii is the only entry to have all qualifiers place so high) 1st overall is Alex Schuman (O‘ahu)and he is presently in 3rd place for the All Around Cowboy, 6th is Kala‘i Nobriga (Hawaii) and he finished 3rd overall last year, and in 10th is Ziggy Jewell (Hawaii). Punk Carter of Celina, Texas is providing their horses.
Tn Steer Wrestling: out of 54 wrestlers in 17th place is Peter Deluz (Hawaii).
For Barrel Racing out of 58 racers in 17th place is Lisa Rincon(Hawaii). She is also Hawaii’s Queen Contestant and Hawaii High School Rodeo’s Queen for 2003-04.
Other Hawaii’s own qualifiers that had impressive performances yesterday were: Rachel Rincon(Hawaii) in Barrel Racing, Kaycee Smith(O‘ahu) in Breakaway Roping, Hoku Weeks(Hawaii) in Pole Bending, and Shane Uyetake and Braiden Malicki in Team Roping.
There are 3 draws or 3 packs of competitors for each event.
