Kapa‘a — The Native Gurlz hosted Hokuala on Wednesday at the New Kapa‘a Ball Park. The game was quite close until a rally by Hokuala proved victorious. They took the contest 9-6 in seven innings of play.
On the mound for Hokuala were Shantell Wong and Wailana Borrero. Wong pitched for five innings until Borrero relived her. During her time on the mound, Wong pitched two strikeouts, walked six and allowed five runs on one hit.
Hokuala’s defense committed one error. Borrero zipped balls past three, walked no batters and allowed one run two hits.
Taking the loss for the Native Gurlz was Chasa‘re Labugen. She hurled six strikeouts, walked three and allowed nine runs on 10 hits. The Native Gurls committed four defensive errors.
Topping Hokuala‘s offense were Shantell Wong and Brittany Brackenridge. Wong went 2-3 had a single and scored two runs. Brackenridge 3-5 had a stolen base, RBI and scored two runs.
Leading the way for the Native Gurlz were Lea Tamura and Jocelyn Enrique. Tamura went 0-0 with two walks and two scored runs. Enrique went 1-4 with a stolen base and scored a run.
In earlier tournament action, Wi Kea Moa Rallies to tie Da Wahines 6-6.
Da Wahines took an early lead in three innings leading 3-2. In the top of the fifth Da Wahines would score three runs. But in the fourth and fifth, Wi Kea Moa would respond and score two more runs. Due to the time limit, the game ended in a tie.
Pitching for Da Wahines was Darcie Allianic. She hurled six strikeouts, walked four and allowed six runs on five hits. Da Wahines defense committed four errors.
Syanne Sagawa and Dale Ann Perreira took to the mound for Wi Kea Moa. Sagawa pitched two strikeouts, walked four and allowed three runs on three hits. Perreira threw no strikeouts, walked a batter and allowed three runs on three hits. Wi Kea Moa committed no defensive errors.
Jaezelle Balilea, Darci Murata and Samantha Koga topped Da Wahines offense. Balilea went 1-for-1 with a single, three stolen bases and scored a run. Murata went 2-for-3 with a triple, a single and scored a run. Koga went 1-for-2 with a triple and scored a run.
Offensively leading Wi Kea Moa were Kelly Joyce, Syanne Sagawa and Tatum Gonsalves. Joyce went 2-for-3 with two singles, three stolen bases and scored a run. Sagawa went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, a stolen base and scored a run. Gonsalves 1-for-3 had a double.
Island Rebels rally to win Na Wahines 10- 9
The Na Wahines hosted the Island Rebels on Monday night at the Waimea Ball park. The Rebels took an early lead in the first three innings of play and lead the 4-0. But in the fourth, the Na Wahines would respond. They would score seven runs on two homers that came off of Lynette Perreira and Melissa Moreno. The Rebels Jenna Mercado would answer with a solo home run in the fifth. In the end the Rebels would take the battle 9-8.
Pitching for the Rebels was Sherri Gebauer. She hurled two strikeouts, walked three and allowed nine runs on seven hits. The Rebels defense committed three errors.
Taking the loss for the Na Wahines was Lynette Perreira. She managed to strikeout no batters, walked four and allowed 10 runs, 13 hits. The Na Wahines committed three errors.
Topping the Rebels offense were Jenna Mercado, Ashley Silva and Jordan Ramboyan. Mercado went 4-for-5 with a homer, two singles and scored four runs. Silva 2-for-4 had a triple and two singles. She scored a run and stole two bases. Ramboyan went 1-for-3 with a single and scored two runs.
Melissa Moreno, Kodi Oyama and Lynette Perreira led the Na Wahines offense. Moreno went 2-for-4 with a homer, a single and scored two runs. Oyama 2-for-3 with a triple, a single and scored a run. Perreira 1-for-4 with a home run.
The next game is scheduled for July 26.
The Rebels will face the Native Gurlz of Kapa‘a in a double header. The game will begin at 10 a.m. at the New Kapa‘a Ball Park.
