Alio Santos Sr.
Alio Clarence Santos, Sr. of Edmore, Mich., died at Kelsey Memorial Hospital on June 25, 2003 at the age of 91.
Born in the Philippines on April 2, 1912, he was retired from the Board of Water Supply.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Rapozo Santos; two children, Alio (Cynthia) Santos, Jr., of Edmore, Mich.; and Kathleen (Michael) Hanson of Oahu; three grandchildren, Erin Santos, Alio Santos III, and Bradley Santos.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret L. Santos in 1980, an infant daughter, and brother, Edward Santos.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13, at Koolau Huiia Protestant Church in Anahola, with Rev. Bob Merkel officiating.
Leonila Carlos
Leonila J. Carlos of Lihue, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 3, 2003 at the age of 69.
Born in the Philippines on August 18, 1933, she was a janitor for Lihue Airport.
She is survived by six children: Gil (Aleli L.L.) Carlos of Lihue, Mary (William) Bran of Lihue, Noel (Maribeth) Carlos of Lihue, Bessie (Teresito) Fulgencio of San Diego, California, Jolly Carlos of Lihue, Asprenio Carlos of Lihue; sister, Rosita (Cornelio) Bacani of the Philippines; brother, Rogelio (Alicia) Juico of the Philippines, 11 grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 20, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Beatrice Nawanao
Beatrice Castillo Primero Nawanao of Lihue died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 7, 2003 at the age of 80.
Born in Wailua on December 18, 1922, she was a processor for the Kapaa Cannery and later retired as a housekeeper from Woolworth’s Department Store.
She is survived by her son, Felix (Guillermina) Primero of Anaheim, California; three daughters, Linda Lopez of Hilo, Patricia (Javone) Beach of Kileen, Texas, Beverly Primero of Lihue; hanai daughter, Evajoy (Leslie) Peru of Kilauea; two sisters, Marie Eggleston of Arizona, Elizabeth Castillo of Honolulu; two brothers, Hubert (Pearl) Castillo of Honolulu, Sonny (Chiyoko) Castillo of California; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 15, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church where service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Aloha attire is suggested.
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas of Princeville died at his home on July 11, 2003, at the age of 56.
Born Feb. 7, 1947, in San Francisco, Calif., he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kima Douglas; stepdaughter Kelly Hooper; two stepgrandchildren; and sister, Susan Anderson.
Michael was President of the Kekahu Foundation, the governing board of KKCR, Kauai’s community radio station. Prior to moving to Kauai, Michael, a graduate of John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, Calif., practiced psychotherapy for 7 years.
An avid surfer, motorcyclist, chess player, ceramic potter and collector of world music, Michael, a Lakota Yankton Sioux tribal member, was recognized by many for his “On the Journey” radio show, which broadcast every Sunday morning on KKCR.
A memorial celebration will be held on Monday, July 14, at 5 p.m. at the Amaama Road location of Hanalei Bay. Donations in Michael’s honor may be made to KKCR, P.O. Box 825, Hanalei, HI 96714.
