Lihue — The Island Rebels hosted the Na Wahines at Isenberg Wednesday night.
Both teams came with intentions of giving the other a tough battle. But the Na Wahines jumped out to an early lead in the first three innings taking a 2-0 lead.
Melisa Moreno scored these two runs. Then in the bottom of the third, the Island Rebels would rally on hits off the bats of Ashley Silva, Jenna Mercado, Angela Kirchner and Ashley Nonaka.
They would then pull out to a 5-2 lead. The Island Rebels couldn’t score after this inning.
In the top of the fifth, Na Wahine’s Erin Castillo would respond. She hit a triple and then scored on Lynette Perreira’s single.
In the top of the seventh, Daelene Perreira would get on base due to an error and score off of Castillo’s RBI double.
The final score was 5-4. The Island Rebels would pick up their second win of the season and the Na Wahine dropped to 2-1.
Lynette Perreira took the loss for Na Wahine. She had a strikeout, three walks and allowed five runs on eight hits. Defensively, the club committed no errors. Island Rebels pitcher Sherri Gebauer lead her team to their second win.
She hurled eight strikeouts, five walks and allowed four runs on three hits. The Rebels defense committed only one error.
The Na Wahine offense was lead by Erin Castillo, Daelene Perreira and Melisa Moreno. Castillo went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple.
She scored a run and had an RBI. Perreira went 2-for-4 with a scored run. Moreno went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
The Island Rebels defense was lead by Ashley Silva, Angela Kirchner, Ashley Nonaka and Jenna Mercado.
Silva went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and scored a run. Kirchner went 1-for-2 with a double and a scored run. Nonaka went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and scored a run. Mercado went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
The next game is scheduled for Saturday at Isenberg Park.
The Rebels will host the Native Gurlz of Kapaa in a double header.
The game will start at 10 a.m. and the second will commence 30 minutes after the first game is complete.
