Representatives of the Groark Companies, a leading water-features contractor with many completed projects on Kaua‘i, announced a change in ownership, from a privately held company to an employee-owned and operated company.
John Groark & Associates, Inc. is the company’s new name. The sale included the purchase of Groark Design, Inc., now a wholly owned subsidiary of John Groark & Associates, Inc.
Founded in 1980 by John Groark, the company was originally known as John Groark & Associates. Groark Design was created in 1990 to provide design services for a wide variety of water features.
The company and its design subsidiary employ 50 persons.
It is one of only three union water-features contractors in Hawai‘i. Company workers feel comfortable on projects large and small, said Frank Fontana, president.
John Groark & Associates, Inc. and Groark Design, Inc. are among just a few companies with the capability to design and construct large, complex water features and rock-work projects.
These include lakes, lagoons, streams, ponds, pools, spas, waterfalls, fountain sculptures, aquatic displays and recreational water attractions. Company workers have extensive experience in construction projects in Hawai‘i, on the Mainland, and throughout the Pacific.
Major resort hotels, commercial businesses and homeowners throughout Hawai‘i, as well as in California, Nevada, Taiwan, the Philippines, Barbados, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, are clients.
The specialty contractor’s work can be found at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki; the Outrigger Waikoloa Resort and the Four Seasons Resort Hawaii in Kona on the Big Island; the Outrigger Wailea Resort, Hyatt Regency Maui and Maui Marriott Ocean Club on Maui; and the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa in Po‘ipu.
Officers of John Groark & Associates, Inc. are Fontana; Wendell Lee, vice president; and Donald A. Morrison, chief financial officer and secretary-treasurer.
