POIPU Poipu Bay Golf Course, on Kauai’s sunny south shore, welcomes groups and tournaments and has introduced a unique nighttime activity, called “Golf Glow”, specifically for groups.
The award-winning course, site of the annual PGA Grand Slam of Golf, offers a number of creative ways to enhance the fun for golf groups, including a selection of personalized logo amenities and activities such as private group golf clinics.
With advance booking, groups up to 40 players can enjoy Poipu Bay’s “Golf Glow” events, offering nighttime play on a nine-hole putting course or a three-hole regular course.
The holes are illuminated with glow sticks, and players are provided with glow balls. “The Golf Glow events are great for golfers and non-golfers alike,” notes Poipu Bay’s Head Golf Pro Michael Castillo.
“They’re just for fun, and non-intimidating. Let’s face it…no one can play serious golf at night.”
The Golf Glow events are staffed by Poipu Bay’s PGA golf professionals. The events must be booked well in advance. The Golf Glow Putting Course can include up to 40 players. Cost for the putting event is $1,500. The Golf Glow 3-Hole Course requires a minimum of 24 and maximum of 36 players.
Poipu Bay offers a variety of other activities that can be tailored to meet the needs of a group. Private golf clinics, including equipment, can be arranged for groups of 8 or more. Individual golf lessons, video analysis and on-course playing lessons are also available.
For tournaments, Poipu Bay offers scoring services, including coordination of all tournament aspects, individual hole competitions and final score presentation. In 2001, Poipu Bay became the first course in Hawaii to implement tournament scoring capabilities as part of its in-cart satellite tracking system. Each of Poipu Bay’s golf carts is equipped with an in-cart color monitor showing graphic displays of hole and green layouts. The hands-free system allows golfers to monitor their pace of play, locate the hole, and track their ball, determining yardage from the cart to the daily hole placement, bunkers and other trouble spots.
Course rules are provided and pro tips are offered for each hole. The tournament scoring program provides real-time scoring for tournaments up to 144 players. Handicap information is incorporated into the scoring, and real-time leader boards can be displayed on the individual cart monitors as well as on the screens in the clubhouse.
Scores can also be accessed via internet for those non-players who want to keep abreast of the play.
Poipu Bay also offers groups a selection of golf amenities that, with sufficient advance notice, can be personalized for players with their names, company logos, or other identification.
Group coordinators can choose and pre-order from a variety of individual amenities, such as personalized bag tags or caps, or select an amenity package for their players. Amenity packages range from
“The Tee Off”, which includes a Poipu Bay logo ball, tees and marker along with a personalized bag tag and yardage book (package cost is $10 per person), to the “Grand Slam”, which outfits each player with a Poipu Bay logo golf shirt, golf towel, tees, marker, personalized bag tag and yardage book (package cost is $80 per person).
