The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women inducted four new members Tuesday.
Diane Hansen, of Kalaheo; Lisa Beland, of Kapaa; Carol Bain, of Puhi; and Judy Fraser, of Lihue, were presented with plumeria lei and welcomed by Status of Women chair Judith Thompson. Hansen, the newest member, was sworn in by Ernie Pasion of the County Clerk’s office.
The Status of Women promotes the rights of women in the community and lobbies for legislation, and is interested in such issues as job training, welfare reform, teen-age pregnancy, domestic violence, substance abuse and availability of human services.
The committee still has space for new members. Meetings are at noon at the Queen Liliuokalani Children’s Center in Lihue. Applications are available at the Mayor’s Office. Call 241-6300 for information.
