KALAHEO — Brytney Lanning scored six points to pave the Westside Hornets 30-9 win over the Kapaa Mystics in girls 14 and under community basketball play on Friday night.
Natasha Furtado scored three for the Mystics.
In the second game, the Kauai Fire Raiders took a 31-19 win over Wailua.
Rachel Taira scored eight points for the Raiders while Kennilyn Nakamura added 10 points for Wailua.
In Saturday’s contests, the Hornets beat Second 2 None 38-27 in boys 12 and under play. Peyton Navarro scored 15 points for Westside while Jayson Yanos totaled nine for Second 2 None.
In girls 12 and under play, the Hornets edged the Lihue Comets 30-27 with Cherilyn Kua pouring in 14 points for the Hornets.
Kathleen Cadiente scored 10 for the Comets. In boys 14 and under action, the Hornets took a 40-25 win over the Lihue Breakaway.
Chad Barba scored 13 for the Hornets while Justin Ramos added six for the Breakaway.
April Johnson scored seven points to help the Kilauea Hui defeat the Westside Hornets II 25-19 in girls 14 and under play. Chasen Sherman scored eight for the Hornets II.
In a girls 12 and under game, the Waimea Minihunes beat the Kaumakani SuperSonics 31-23.
Natalie Mata totaled 10 points for the Minihunes while Aiko Grande added 10 for the Sonics.
In Saturday games in Kilauea, the Eastside Warriors took a 46-37 boys 12 and under victory over the Lihue Maniacs.
Cody Moroen scored eight for Eastside while Sheldon Sakai added eight for the Maniacs.
In girls 12 and under play, Wailua bested the Na Wahine 24-16 with Emma Donigan pouring in eight for Wailua.
In a boys 12 and under contest, the Lihue On Fire cruised to a 61-27 win over Wailua with Justin Ramos scoring 19 for the On Fire.
Kim and Poai lead qualifiers
WAILUA — Kimberly Kim, 11, of Hilo and Jennie Pleas, 17, of Lihue, tied for medalist with a 78 on Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course to qualify for the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
The very challenging Wailua Golf Course was in beautiful condition playing to a par 73. Kim and Pleas lead four golfers who qualified for the Amateur event. The Championship will be played from June 17-22 at Ocean Hammock Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla.
Also qualifying were Kira-Ann Murashige, 16, of Hilo and Meilin Poai, 26, of Kapaa who won a two hole playoff against Whitney Ueno of Hilo for the final spot.
Whitney Ueno is the first alternate.
The Women’s Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
