KILAUEA – Sam Chung and Elijah Duncan fired 12 points apiece as the Lihu’e Five-O outdistanced the Lihu’e team 57-36 in boys 16 and under basketball action on Thursday night at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
Kaulana Lemke exploded for 10 second half points to help the winning Five-O effort.
Holding just an eight-point halftime lead, 23-15, the Five-O exploded for a 19-7 third period behind seven points from Duncan and six from Lempke while Lihu’e was able to generate a trey from Irah Nishi and field goals from Russell Bocalbos and John Penn.
Penn went on to fire six points in the final period to lead the Lihu’e scoring. He finished with 10 points for the game.
In other action, Kaumakani Supersonics’ guard Jeremy Manual exploded for 14 of his game-high 19 points in the second half as he weaved through heavy traffic anchored by Northshore Kilauea’s Kapena Cummings, Zac Schwartz, and Zach Cummings to snag buckets.
The Supersonics capitalized on Northshore to take a 9-point win 46-37 in a contest flavored with three technical fouls. The Sonics went ahead for good in the final five minutes of play after Kapena Cummings chalked up his fifth foul.
Kahua Hollinger picked up 11 points to lead Northshore before disappearing from the arena early in the second half after picking up a technical foul for kicking the basketball in frustration following a Kaumakani basket.
Kapena Cummings and Zac Schwartz added seven points each in the loss.
Two more games remain in the 16-under boys basketball series as the season winds down at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center for the next two Thursdays.
On Thursday, Kaumakani takes on Lihu’e in the 6 p.m. opener with Kilauea hosting Kalaheo in the finale.
The final game on May 29 will feature the Lihu’e Five-O tangling with Kalaheo in the opener while Kilauea will host Lihu’e in the nightcap.
