MAU’I – Taylor Watanabe and Jonathan Sakura laced run-scoring hits in the top of the second inning as part of a three-run rally in helping Aiea overcome an early 1-0 deficit enroute to a 5-2 win over Kaua’i in the consolation bracket of the 2003 Wally Yonamine Foundation State baseball tournament on Friday.
Aiea pitchers Ranon Aquino and Shawn Hao held Kaua’i (10-6) to three hits in the game.
Aiea (14-2) scored two more runs in the third inning off of Red Raiders’ starter Jake Oketani, who pitched into the fourth inning before giving way to Garen Itamura.
Aquino picked up the win for Aiea.
Alec Reichle doubled for the Red Raiders.
The leading hitters for Aiea were Watanabe 2-for-2, 2 RBIs, James Miyashiro 2-for-3 and an RBI and Dustin Grace 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Aiea moves on to face the winner of the Baldwin and Roosevelt game today at 2:30 p.m.
