The Waimea Blue Jays defeated the Kalawai Cardinals 13-5 on May 7 in West Kaua’i Youth Baseball League Mustang Division play.
Led by Blue Jay’s’ pitcher Kalama Resquer-Yorkman’s 10 strikeouts, the No. 1 seeded Cardinals were upset.
Requer-Yorkman went 1-for-4 at the plate for Waimea.
Chance Taala (1-for-2) and JP Joyce (1-for-3, double) also helped at the plate for the Blue Jays. The Cardinals were led by Dallas Correa, 2-for-2 double, Chyson Goias (1-for-2) and Jamen Kealoha-Albarado 1-for-2.
The Waimea Blue Jays advance to the winner’s bracket while the Kalawai Cardinals will now go through the elimination bracket to try and find their way back to the championship game.

No. 3 Hanapepe Cubs 7, No. 2 Kekaha Angels 4
Brycen Tacata led the Hanapepe Cubs going 2 for 4 in their win against the Kekaha Angels. Also hitting for the Cubs were Taylen Acoba 1 for 3, Vinda Carineo 1 for 3 and Dylan Pimental 1 for 2.
Kekaha was led by Kahai Hosaka 1 for 3 and Steven Werner 1 for 3.
No. 7 Kalawai Red Sox 13, No. 6 Kalawai Yankees 8
In the first elimination game in the playoffs No. 7 Kalawai Red Sox stayed alive with a 13-8 win over No. 6 Kalawai Yankees.

No. 2 Kekaha Angels 14, No. 5 Koloa Braves 2 Teams are now down to the final four. The No. 3 Hanapepe Cubs advance directly into the championship game while the No. 1 Kalawai Cardinals, No. 2 Kekaha Angels and No. 4 Waimea Blue Jays battle through the elimination round. Championships are scheduled for Saturday at Hanapepe Park at 10 a.m. with a second game, if necessary, to begin at 2 p.m.

Elimination Bracket No. 2 Hanapepe Cubs 7, No. 5 Waimea Blue Jays 5 Nainoa Nobrega went 2 for 2 with a 2-run homer to help the Cubs in their win. Cubs pitcher Ashtin Igne picked up the win. Keaka Canute, Harold Shimono along with Ashtin Igne also helped at the plate for the Cubs. Leading Waimea included Keola Resquer-Yorkman, Jarrick Ornellas and Skyler Fernandez, No. 4 Kekaha Indians 14, No. 6 Hanapepe Dragons 5
Winner’s Bracket – No. 1 Kalawai Yankees 8, No. 3 Koloa A’s 7 The No. 1 Kalawai Yankees overcame a 7-2 deficit in bottom of the 6th to come back and beat the Koloa A’s. The final four is also set in the Bronco Division. The No. 1 Kalawai Yankees have advanced to the championship game. The No. 2 Hanapepe Cubs, No. 3 Koloa A’s and No. 4 Kekaha Indians will battle for the championship berth. The title game is scheduled for May 17 at 10 a.m. at the Hanapepe Ball Park. A second championship game, if necessary, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
