The 24-year-old Kapa’a man who allegedly fired two shots from a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol in Lihu’e Airport at about 6 p.m. Thursday night is in the care of the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital pending a psychiatric exam.
Lloyd Polarin Albinio, Jr., 24, was arrested on charges of first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment. Bail was set at $25,000 bail. He was admitted to the Mahelona facility at about 11 p.m. Thursday.
It is not known how long Albinio has been living on Kaua’i.
Divorce papers were filed March 6 against a Lloyd Polarin Albinio, Jr. in First Circuit Court in Honolulu, according to state Judiciary records.
Kaua’i prosecutors are to file an application for a judicial determination of probable cause affidavit to keep him in custody for more than 48 hours.
Police towed a vehicle they believed to be Albinio’s, which he parked near a hallway exit at the airport terminal. It was not immediately known whether the Sig Sauer gun seized by police was owned by Albinio.
The County of Kaua’i prosecutor’s office has contacted federal authorities, who will decide whether to go forward with additional charges.
