Felipe Fernandez Tabangcura, of ‘Ele’ele, died on April 17, 2003 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 75.
Born in the Philippines on Sept. 13, 1927, he was an irrigation engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Estelita Tabangcura of ‘Ele’ele, daughter, Estela Derr of Aiea; son, Philip Tabangcura of Walnut Creek, CA; brother, Stan Tabangcura of Tacoma, WA; sisters, Mely Buschkonig of West Germany, Delelis Tabangcura of Philippines; granddaughter, Mattea Derr of Aiea, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 26, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Keahi. Burial to follow at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual/aloha attire is requested.

Shigeko Ishibashi formerly of Makaweli, died on Feb. 24, 2003 at Kuakini Care Center, at the age of 88.
Born in Wahiawa, on June 21, 1915, she was a retired postmaster of the Makaweli Post Office.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shigeru “Jack” Ishibashi. She is survived by daughters: Elizabeth (Jim) Takishita of Pearl City, Jean (Daniel) Chapp of Hanapepe, Linda (LJ) Kutten of Reno, Nevada, Janice (Ken) Sandusky of Springfield, Ore.; son, David (Jan) Ishibashi of Kalaheo; sisters, Kuniko Ishibashi of Kalaheo and Harumi Nagata of Kalaheo; brother, Yoshito Oyama of Honolulu, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 25, at the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji in Waimea where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. by Reverend Fujimoro and Reverend Suzuki.
Rose Haisler
Rose E. Haisler of Kapa’a, formerly of Newport Richey, Florida, died at home on April 17, 2003 at the age of 94.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on Nov. 3, 1908, she was a retired Factory worker.
She is survived by niece, Carole (Richard) Seshiki of Kapa’a, three grand nieces, Regina (Roddy) Kaulukukui of Anahola, Laurie Shibao of Lihu’e and Lisa (Paul) Kawamura of Kapa’a; 5 great-great grand nieces and nephews; 5 great-great-great grand nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Charles Mendes
Charles Edward Mendes of Kapa’a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 18, 2003, at the age of 56.
Born in Lihu’e, on July 8, 1947, he was a mechanic engineer. He graduated Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, Calif and studied automatic transmission repair and automotive mechanics in the diesel division at West Coast Trade School. He was employed by Smith’s Tree Trimming, Rolloffs Hawaii and Big Island Disposal.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene K. Kanei-Mendes; five children, Stephanie (Derek) Alves, Cheryl Mareno, Ivan Kanei, Jantzen Kanei-Mendes, Jasmine Mendes; mother, Josephine Bandmann; three brothers, Robert (Pam) Mendes, Michael (Cindy) Bandmann, Randall Bandmann; two sisters, Carl Bandmann, Jacqueline (Mark) Nakagoshi, 5 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 25, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa’a from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Bruce. Casual attire is suggested.

Shizue Okada
Shizue Okada of Waimea, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 20, 2003 at the age of 93.
Born in Lihu’e, on April 20, 1910, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by son, James Okada of Waimea; daughter, Lillian Murakami of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.
Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
