HANAPEPE — Robbie Correa pitched a complete-game allowing just a run and the Menehune scored eight runs in the first inning in beating Kapa’a 12-1 in five innings on Saturday in the first game of the KIF doubleheader.
The Menehune (4-2 in the KIF) then went on to edge Kapa’a 3-2 in Game 2 setting up a matchup with Kaua’i (4-1 in the KIF) on Wednesday for the KIF first-round championship.
In Game 1, Waimea jumped out to an 8-0 lead on six hits in the first inning and then added four more in the fourth.
Kalen Laranio took the loss for the Warriors.
Correa allowed four hits with two strikeouts and a walk for the Menehune.
Clarence Aki drove in three runs and went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles and a double to pave the Menehune offensive onslaught.
Rayson Cacal added a two-run triple for Waimea.
Kyle Neuberger pounded a double for the Warriors.
In Game 2, Isaac Castillo’s RBI double scored Quinton Natividad from second base in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Menehune to a 3-2 win.
The Warriors tied the score at 2 in the top of the sixth inning after Tyson Cremer laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Dustin Mundon.
The Menehune (4-2 in the KIF) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cacal.
In the early going, Kapa’a (0-5 in the KIF) took the early edge 1-0 after Frank Rivera’s RBI groundout in the third inning.
Waimea got even with the Warriors after Michael Ishibashi’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame.
