Members of the Kaua’i Food Bank were on hand Monday to receive a proclamation from Mayor Bryan Baptiste. The group celebrated the organization’s Spring Food Drive that kicked off on March 5.
Attending the County of Kaua’i proclamation award ceremony were: Kelvin Moniz; Mark Gregory, co-chair of the Spring Food Drive; Baptiste; Judy Lenthall, Kaua’i Food Bank executive director; and Paul Douglass, president of the Kaua’i Food Bank Board.
Special Spring Food Drive paper bags were distributed last week inside copies of The Garden Island, and inside the Island Shopper, a Kauai Publishing Co. publication sent to residents which are non-subscribers to The Garden Island.
The Kaua’i Food Bank distribute food to organizations that feed the needy across Kaua’i. The organization played a key role in keeping the island’s people fed in the aftermath of Hurricane ‘Iniki.
The mission of the Kaua’i Food Bank, Inc. is to eliminate the waste of edible foods, feed the hungry nutritious food in a cost-effective way reduce hunger through education and vocational training, and promote and strengthen a food-secure island community through self-reliant, culturally appropriate enterprises.
