George Wayne Alves, Sr. of Sacramento, Calif., and formerly of Kaua’i. died on Feb. 7, 2003, in Sacramento, at the age of 57.
Born Aug. 25, 1945, in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, he was a retired building inspector for the city of San Jose, Calif.
He returned to Kaua’i in 1990, introducing Kauaians to karaoke. He opened the first karaoke store on Kaua’i called “U Can Sing.”
He is survived by his wife, Theresa “Teri” Alves; one daughter: Monica Alves; three sons: George Wayne (Michelle) Alves, Jr. of California, Derrick (Stephanie) Alves of California and James Alves of California; raised his grandson Daniel Alves-Centers; five grandchildren; mother Frances Carreira of Kapa’a; grandmother Ida Barretto of Kapa’a; one brother; David (Dona) Alves of Jamestown, Calif.; three sisters: Eileen (Philip, Sr.) Rapozo of Kapa’a, Patricia (Robert, Sr.) Cremer of Kapa’a and Charlotte (David) Rapozo of Kapa’a; one uncle John F. Barretto of Kapa’a; and numerous aunts, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, March 14, with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The family requests that flowers to be omitted and casual attire is suggested.
