HONOLULU – The Menehune kept their playoff hopes alive on Friday after edging Kaimuki 54-53 at the 2003 Hawaiian Airlines Boys State Basketball tournament at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
Desmond Rodrigues nailed the first of two free throws with nine seconds left to give Waimea (9-1 overall) a three-point edge.
Kaimuki came down court and attempted the game-tying 3-pointer.
However, the ball hit the front of the rim and bounced out.
A Bulldogs player grabbed the rebound and scored on a layup as time expired allowing Waimea to take the contest in the consolation round of the tourney.
