The Kaua’i High School Red Raider girls team (5-1-2), unseeded in the 2003 Meadow Gold Girls State Soccer Championship Tournament, will make their bid for the state title on Wednesday, February 19 at the Maui War Memorial when they take on the Kalaheo Mustangs (9-2-3) of the OIA starting at 3 p.m.
Should the Red Raiders take this opening bid, they will continue on to meet the top-seeded Mililani Trojans (12-0-1) on Thursday, February 20 starting at 3:30 p.m.
An opening day loss would pit the Raiders against the vanquished of the Kealakehe (11-3)/Kahuku (8-4-1) matchup.
Top seeded teams for the 2003 state championship tournament are Mililani (12-0-1) holding the top seed position. Punahou (9-0-1), the ILH champion, is the number two seed with Baldwin (12-0), the MIL champion, and Hawai’i Prep (12-1), the BIIF champion round out the top four seeds.
Other teams participating in the tournament include Pearl City (11-1-1), Aiea (11-3-0), Hilo (11-2), and King Kekaulike (9-2-1) rounding out the tournament field that encompasses five teams from the OIA, three teams from the BIIF, two teams from the MIL, and one team each from the ILH and the KIF.
All championship bracket games will be played at the Maui War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku with Thursday and Friday’s consolation games moving to Keopuolani Park.
The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 22.
There have been no Kaua’i teams earning the state girls soccer title since 1982.
