The Planning Commission announced the appointment of Ian Costa as the Director of the Kaua’i County Planning Department. Costa succeeds Dee Crowell who is scheduled to leave his post in February after serving as planning director since 1993.
Costa is now the Deputy County Engineer and held the position of Deputy Planning Director from 1994 to 1998.
He is a Kapa’a High School and earned a degree in architecture from the University of Oregon. Cosata has been a professional registered architect in Hawai’i since 1989.
“I am pleased with Ian’s appointment,” Dee Crowell, who recommended Costa as his successor. “Ian is familiar with various planning and construction-related codes and regulations and his 13-year experience with government will facilitate a timely and smooth transition in the operations of the Planning Department. He has a proven desire and dedication to public service and has strong personal feelings about preserving and enhancing Kauai’s uniqueness for future generations.”
Sandi Kato-Klutke, the newly selected Chair of the Planning Commission, said that the Planning Commission is looking forward to working with Costa.
“Ian is a highly qualified individual with Kaua’i roots and has a good sense of the issues facing our community.”
