Five hunting dogs are being held at the Kaua’i Humane Society following an attack on cattle Friday morning at Princeville Ranch.
The Kaua’i Police Department and Kaua’i Humane Society are working together to pursue the County of Kaua’i’s “Dangerous Dogs” ordinance, according to Dr. Rebecca Rhoades, KHS director.
Specific details were not immediately available, but according to eyewitnesses, a calf was attacked by several dogs, but it did not die. Five dogs were captured at the scene and will be held at the facility until further notice.
The county law, signed Oct. 15, carries criminal penalties for owners of a dog, or dogs, that attack people or animals without provocation. It must be proven that the owner did not take reasonable measures to prevent an attack.
