Shanna Pollard is the new President and Publisher of The Garden Island.
She succeeds Cynthia Schur, who is now President and Publisher of The Santa Maria Times and head of Pulitzer Central Coast Newspapers in California.
“Kaua’i is a beautiful island, and both my husband Chad Cannon and I look forward to getting to know the communities, and cultures, that make up our new home,” said Pollard.
The new publisher of The Garden Island has an impressive record in the newspaper business. She got her start as a classified advisor in Paris, Texas, initially as a way to help finance her education. Shortly thereafter, she joined The Telegram-Tribune in San Luis Obispo, Calif. and was responsible for national advertising and major accounts for approximately five years.
After briefly working for New Times in San Luis Obispo, Shanna joined the Five Cities Times-Press-Recorder in northern Santa Barbara County where she served as General Manager of The Times-Press-Recorder and The Adobe Press, both of which are part of the Pulitzer footprint in northern Santa Barbara County.
About a year later, she became Advertising Director of The Santa Maria Times and since 2001 has served as General Manager and Vice President of Advertising for Pulitzer Central Coast Newspapers.
Pollard was involved in the acquisition of The Lompoc Record and was responsible for planning and executing a variety of synergy initiatives between The Record, The Santa Maria Times and the weekly newspapers in and around the Five Cities area.”
As for up coming plans for the newspaper,” Pollard said, “it’s too early to say, but whatever changes the team here implement, it will be with a focus on better serving our community.”
