Abraham Haakokalani Waiamau “Abe” of Lihu’e, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 26, 2002, at the age of 74. He was born in Waipouli, Kaua’i on Nov. 15, 1928.
A retired Major with the Kaua’i Police Department, during his time with the department he was in charge of developing and implementing the 911 emergency service. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the East Kaua’i Lions Club.
Preceded in death by his son, Nelson Waiamau, he survived by his wife: Arlene Waiamau of Lihu’e, sons: Douglas (Wanda) Waiamau of Lihu’e and Alton (Cathy) Waiamau of Honolulu, daughter: Thalia Waiamau of Lihu’e, and daughter-in-law: Kalena Waiamau of Honolulu; 9 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Lihu’e Christian Church from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Rev. Richard Chun.
