The County of Kaua’i began its much-anticipated playground equipment construction project on October 15. The project will continue until January 10 and include playgrounds at Wailua Houselots Park, Kalena Park, Peter Rayno Park, Hanama’ulu Beach Park, Hanapepe Town Park, and Waimea Canyon Park.
“It has been one of my priorities to provide the children of Kaua’i with recreation opportunities in an accessible and safe play environment. I am pleased that our island’s community parks will soon meet the needs of all of our keiki,” said Mayor Maryanne Kusaka.
The playground equipment construction project involves three phases including constructing concrete slabs; installing playground composite structures; and finally, installing rubberized surfacing. This project will meet the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Guidelines for Play Areas as well as the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Guidelines for Public Playground Safety.
Playground improvements have already been completed at Kilauea Park, Isenberg Park, Koloa Park, and Kalawai Park.
